Flight Logging Settings
Position Settings
Access the Status Card by selecting the red/orange/green status dot, then tap Position. Here are the key options:
- Background Location Update:
- Default Behavior: EasyVFR tracks your location when the app is in the foreground.
- Background Tracking: Enable this to continue tracking when you switch to another app (e.g., a PDF reader, web browser, or while taking a photo). Note that additional permissions may be required, and background tracking decreases battery life.
- Status Indicator: EasyVFR will notify you when tracking your location in the background. On iOS, a blue bar is displayed; on Android, a notification is shown.
- Always-On Permission: On some devices, you must allow EasyVFR 4 to always access your device's location through the app settings menu on Android or iOS.
- Non-Flying Tracking: Optionally track your position even when not flying. Enable this only if necessary.
- Possible GPS Sources:
- Default Behavior: The "Automatic" option is enabled, using any GPS source with a green checkmark. EasyVFR selects the source with the best reception.
- Manual Selection: Switch from Automatic to your desired source if you want to use a specific GPS source. You can find this setting via Status Card → Position → Possible GPS Sources.
- Supported Sources: Besides the Internal GPS, EasyVFR supports external GPS sources available on your local network, including GDL90, Dynon Avionics, PilotAware, and FLARM receivers. Simulators can also be used for practice purposes.

Flying Mode
EasyVFR automatically enters flying mode when ground speed exceeds the takeoff speed (default: 30 kts) set in your aircraft profile. Flight tracking begins automatically in flying mode.
To enable flying mode manually, tap the aircraft button (third from left) in the bottom bar. Select the left (takeoff) icon from the popup options. The right icon switches back to planning mode.

In-Flight Track Display
When in flying mode:
- Track Visualization: While in flying mode, EasyVFR 4 plots your track as an orange line on the map.
- Map Clutter Prevention: To avoid clutter, only the last 60 minutes of your flight are displayed on the map during flight.
- Post-Flight Statistics: After landing, a brief flight statistics card appears showing your start time, landing time, and the estimatednumber of touch-and-go events. Your flight track is automatically stored locally on your device.

Flight Analysis and Flight Log Maintenance
After your flight, you can review, edit, and export your logged data:
- Access Flight Log Maintenance:
- Navigate to EasyVFR 4 menu → Flight Log Maintenance.
- EasyVFR automatically creates logbook entries from your stored tracks, including a copy of the breadcrumb data for the flight's timespan.
- Editing Logbook Entries:
- To view detailed information for a logged flight, select the pencil button on the right of the flight entry.
- To edit flight details, tap the light-blue colored text within the log entry screen.
- Cloud Storage (Optional):
- To sync your flight logs with the cloud, enable the Store on EasyVFR Cloud option. This feature is disabled by default for privacy reasons.
- Viewing and Exporting Logged Flights:
- Select a logged flight from the list. A green checkmark will appear next to its name.
- Tap the Tools button at the top right of the screen.
- Available options include:
- Show on Map
- Export to Google Earth: (Ensure the Google Earth app is installed on your device.)
- Export to GPX or CSV: Use these formats with other applications.
- For a dedicated logbook experience, consider using flylog.io, which can import EasyVFR logs.

Track Logs
EasyVFR 4 automatically extracts flight data into the logbook using daily breadcrumb files. These files contain all the stored GPS positions collected throughout the day. Although it is normally not necessary for users to access the Track Logs feature, it is available as a fallback and for privacy reasons, allowing you to export or delete the raw files if needed.
- Viewing Track Logs: You can view these breadcrumb files by navigating to EasyVFR 4 menu → System → Track Logs. This section can be useful if a flight was not automatically extracted from the breadcrumbs when opening Flight Log Maintenance.
- Map and Export Features: The same Show on Map and export features available for extracted flights are also available for daily breadcrumb logs.
This functionality provides an additional way to review and manage your flight data directly from the raw GPS breadcrumb files.
